Project reflection

 

Introduction

In term 2 our science topic was adaptations. We had to create a project on a desert animal that showed its adaptations and some facts. We had to create a model of the animal and conduct a science experiment. Our science experiment was if the darker the chameleon the hotter or if the lighter the chameleon the hotter. I was with Ebony and our project was on the Namaqua chameleon. One of our best achievements was when we created our model. It looked lifelike and amazing and we were really proud of it. We could of probably improved the painting because we used really dark colours and now it kind of looks like a bit of mud with eyes, legs, a tail and a tongue! Another achievement was researching the desert because we put a lot of time into it and I think that it turned out really well. We got lots of information packed into a paragraph and I think that it really influenced the presentation because it too is packed with useful information and I don’t think that it would have been the same if there was only a little bit of information on that page. It also met the brief on the rubric. Something we could of improved on would be giving that area more space and we had to squish it into three little columns also including pictures so I think that we really should of allowed more space for that information. I think that overall we achieved working above expectations because most of the stuff we achieved was in that category and that is where I think we are at. Three facts that I found interesting of surprizing were:

One – The chameleons tongue is twice as long as its body.

Two – The Namaqua chameleons can spread their toes!

Three – The Namaqua chameleon changes colour based on the heat

Two understandings I now have are:

One – I now understand that if the Namaqua chameleons couldn’t spread their toes they couldn’t survive in the desert.

Two – I now understand that Namaqua chameleons need a long tongue to catch their prey.

One wonder I still have is:

One – I wonder if there are any other types of desert chameleons?

Science knowledge

I have learnt that the growth and survival of a certain animal depends on the physical conditions of its environment. I have learnt this through the science research when we found out the answer to our experiment before trying it. At that time, we were contemplating two science experiments. If the darker the chameleon the hotter or if the lighter the chameleon the hotter or what would happen if you put a desert chameleon in the rainforest and vice versa. The blog post said that because the desert chameleon has adapted to the desert and the rainforest chameleon the rainforest the species wouldn’t survive if you switched them around.

Science enquiry skills

Questioning and predicting:

I have learnt to create questions that lead into a scientific investigation and I can predict what I think the finding of an investigation might be based on previous experiences or general rules. I predicted what the findings of our science experiment might be and was incorrect. But I used previous experiences like when I measured the temperature outside and how hot a cup of water gets when you boil in for a minute.

Personal and social capability’s

Personal strengths have assisted me at school when I did this project because I am more – crafty then my partner and so I had the lead on most of the craft things and without my help we wouldn’t have completed the task. Social capability’s

What are the most important things I have learnt?

The most important things I have learnt are:

  • Working in partnerships and having to share the workload
  • Having to handle responsibilities all by myself and if I didn’t complete them I would let my partner down.

 

How did I learn it?

I learnt to work in partners because we were paired in partners for this task and we had to work together to achieve this task. I also learnt to share the workload for this same reason.

I learnt to handle responsibility’s by writing them on my computer desktop and whenever I turn on my computer I see them and get to work on them. I also found out that if I don’t try and remember what I have to do I automatically.

 

What am I going to with what I have learnt?

I will work in partners more often when possible and make shore to share the workload and tasks. I will use my method of writing on my computer screen to organize homework and other errands or chores.

 

Conclusion

All up I have learnt that the chameleons tongue is twice as long as its body, how the growth and survival of a certain animal depends on the physical conditions of its environment, I have learnt to create questions that lead into a scientific investigation and I can predict what I think the finding of an investigation might be based on previous experiences or general rules, I have learnt about working in partnerships and having to share the workload and also having to handle responsibilities all by myself and if I didn’t complete them I would let my partner down. A goal I have for the next time I work in a group would be to contribute to the PowerPoint more because I did most of the stuff off the computer and Ebony did more of the stuff on the computer.

100 WC Week #34

 

 

This weeks prompt is: …the water just kept gushing out…

My goal is: to not use the same sentence starter for every sentence.

“I couldn’t stop it!” I said. “The water just kept gushing out of the tap and I couldn’t reach the switch.”

“Ohh, so your blaming me for this flooded house! I was away for 1 Hour and you couldn’t even behave yourself! Your 12!” Dad shouted at me.

“I’m sorry!” I shouted back. I ran into my room and felt like I had done something awful. Something much more terrible then flooding the house. I curled up into a ball and felt like I would never come out again.
